Items that reflect the Seal Beach Leisure World History
The Historical Society accepts donations of items related only to the local history of Seal Beach Leisure World. Please understand that we do not accept items that are not specifically related to Leisure World's history.
Many of the items in our Museum came from Residents or their families who found the items when cleaning out units or packing to move to other places.
We like to see paperwork , scrapbooks, videos, and books that are tied to the community. For instance at the UCI archives we have the annual editions of the Leisure World Creative Writers Club short stories and the Leisure World Cookbooks. In the museum we have sales brochures from original owners who didn't need them anymore after they had lived here for awhile.
If you think you have items or paperwork that reflect our history please bring them in to the Museum or contact us for more information.
If you decide to donate the items you will be asked to sign a release donating the items to the Historical Society.
Artifacts
Our artifacts are listed on the artifacts page. By looking at the Artifacts page you can see what we exhibit in the museum.
Books & Magazines
We are interested in books and magazine articles that include Leisure World or that were written by authors who lived in Leisure World. We would need to know when and where the author was a community resident. There are memoirs about retirement communities that include Seal Beach Leisure World. We know about some of them but there may be others we haven't come across yet. We have poetry chapbooks by authors that lived in Leisure World and even a poker book by the founder of the Leisure World Tournament Poker Club.
Papers
Articles, land deeds, histories, club records and ledgers, photographs, and newspaper clippings are interesting to us if they are about the community.
Scrpabooks
Club scrapbooks are a big part of the UCI Seal Beach archives. Personal scrapbooks may be included if they include Leisure World history or activities.
Videos
If you have videos showing Leisure World events or activities that took place in Leisure World consider showing them to us. In the past we have been able to convert VHS to digital movies so the films can go on our Youtube channel.
